What is Turmeric Tea?
Turmeric tea is a vegan drink made with nut-milk and turmeric. It’s usually mixed with pepper and some ginger, cinnamon, and coconut oil to help the turmeric absorb better into the body. Curcumin the main active ingredient in turmeric is what helps your body fight off inflammation, and it’s also a great antioxidant.
History of Turmeric
Turmeric dates back over 4000 years and has been traditionally used throughout Southeast Asia as medicine, in food, and even as dyes. It is also used in many rituals and ceremonies for its healing properties and bright color. For example, the Haldi Ceremony, held a couple days before a Hindu wedding, uses turmeric in a paste mixed with rose water to wash over the couple's bodies.
Benefits of Turmeric Tea
Turmeric’s main active compound is Curcumin, a member of the ginger family. It has a range of benefits ranging from brain care to fighting cancer.

The main ingredient Curcumin has been thought to fight the onset of heart and brain diseases. The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties are great for cellular reproduction, and building up the immune system.
How to make Turmeric Tea?
- For each teaspoon of Turmeric Tea, you want to use 3 to 4 cups of water.
- Boil the water
- Add in the turmeric
- Simmer for 10 minutes (don’t let it boil)
- Strain and allow to cool. Here you can add extra ingredients to help with absorption or flavor
- Black pepper and nut milk (such as almond or coconut milk) will help the turmeric absorb better into your system
- Honey is great for extra anti-inflammatory properties and to use as a sweetener
