5 Inspirational and Fun Books Of The Week

See what we’re reading this week to help us stay inspired

The sun is out, the days are longer, we actually have time to do the things we love. So we’ve put together a short list of the books we’re reading around the office. Books that we can take to the park, lie in the sun and just read. Plus they’re all inspirational and contain a lesson or two we can use in our daily lives.

1: The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up By Marie Kondo

“When we really delve into the reasons for why we can’t let something go, there are only two: An attachment to the past or a fear for the future”

This is an excellent book that promotes simple living, slow-fashion, and making your home more open. The lessons in this book can be used throughout your life to help organize it and make it more liveable. Written like a memoir it’s like you’re hanging out with a friend going through similar issues in the city. A great read that will leave you feeling fresh and renewed.

2: How Should A Person Be by Sheila Heti

How should a person be? For years and years I asked it of everyone I met. I was always watching to see what they were going to do in any situation, so I could do it too… How can you say, I’d rather be responsible like Misha than irresponsible like Margaux. Responsibility looks so good on Misha, and irresponsibility looks so good on Margaux. How could I know which would look best on me?

‘How Should A Person Be’ is a fresh and insightful autobiography and fiction blend. Travel with Sheila as she looks for the multiple meanings of life while tackling life itself. Smart, funny, brutally honest, and insightful, How Should A Person Be is a reflective insight into a modern woman’s day to day.

3: The Happiness Project By Gretchen Rubin

What did you like to do as a child? What you enjoyed as a ten-year-old is probably something you’d enjoy now.

In an entertaining and light style of writing, Gretchen Rubin shares her experiences from her Happiness Project: also known as Why I Spent A Year Trying to Sing in the Morning, Clean My Closets, Fight Right, Read Aristotle, and Generally Have More Fun. What this book does is inspire you to create your own happiness project. We all deserve it, it just takes a little nudge.

4: The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper by Phaedra Patrick

Arthur thought about how it was possible for memories to shift and change with time. To be forgotten and resumed, to be enhanced or darkened as the mind and mood commanded. He had conjured up emotions, of how Miriam had felt about the people who gave the charms to her. He didn't know. He couldn't know. But he did know that she had loved him . . .

A sweet and wonderful read about love, adventure, and self-discovery. 69 year old Arthur Pepper who is mourning the death of his wife, finds an old charm bracelet and ends up on an adventure that leads him to an inside look at his wife’s past life.

5: Le Petit Prince (The Little Prince) by Antoine De Saint-Exupéry

Grown-ups never understand anything by themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them

We’re putting this book on the list in case you haven’t read it yet, because you have to read it. A lovely and innocent book about a little prince’s travels from planet to planet told through the author’s eyes. It will make you believe in your childhood and the power of imagination again, and restore all magic in the world.
